In January 2005, a project began to combine Jean McNaughton Park and Happy Wilkinson Park into a major, attractive, multipurpose, community-oriented urban park. A place where everyone in the community would be welcome to enjoy outdoor performances, special events, festivals, and to learn about the history of the park and the surrounding area.

The new and improved Central Community Park was completed and opened to the public in October 2006, and includes a large outdoor amphitheatre, washrooms, interactive water feature, adjacent playground, special lighting, pathways and interpretative signage, along with significant architectural features to make everyone feel welcome and proud of their new community park.

This project was planned and implemented by a number of partners, including the Rotary Club of Chilliwack, Rotary Club of Chilliwack/Mt. Cheam, Rotary Club of Chilliwack/Fraser, City of Chilliwack, School District #33, Downtown BIA, Craven/Huston/Powers Architects and the RCMP.
